Create Trades and Add them to your Workforce for Improved Job Assignments (Outdated)

Learn how to define the various trades you offer and tag them to your technicians to find the right person for your next job assignment

Updated over a week ago

If in the next job assignment you want to see only a filtered list of technicians who are best suited for the requirements in that job, all you have to do is categorise the various trades offered in your business and mark who in your workforce have the skills and expertise in those trades by simply adding those trades to their user profile. In this way you would have created an association between the person and the trade they are good at. Once that's done, no when you assign someone to the job, just make sure the required trades are specified within that job. Then, you'll see the best matched people appear at the top of the list of your workforce.

In this article, we will see how to:

Add trades

STEP 1 Go to the Settings page.

STEP 2 Open the Trades manager.

STEP 3  Open the creation wizard to add a trade and specify its secondary/sub-category trades to clearly distinguish the skills of your technicians.

Tag your workforce with their specialised areas of trade

STEP 1 After you have added trades, go to the Workforce tab and select the team member.

STEP 2 In the Trades field, browse through the list of trades as were recorded in Settings > Trades tab.

The team member is now tagged with the selected trades.

Define the trade requirements in a task template

STEP 1 After you have added the trades, go to the Libraries tab.

STEP 2 Open the Task Template page.

STEP 3 From the list of task templates, you can select the ones which require trades to be mandated.

Similarly, you may enter several other trades that would be required to complete this particular task.

Once you have added trades and tagged your workforce, the trade criteria comes into effect during job assignment, helping you to select from the appropriate pool of  technicians.

Assign workforce as per trades required in the job

STEP 1 In the Jobs area, click the job to be assigned with technicians.

Ensure that the job includes the task template you have updated with the trade requirements.

STEP 2 Select from the list of best-matched people for the job.

In the example above, the person has the same trade skill as required by the task template 'Exit Light Checklist' in the job.

At any time, you can choose to see the full list of members of your workforce, irrespective of the trade requirements, for that, just click IGNORE ASSIGNEE REQUIREMENTS and continue Assign as usual.

If you want to go back to enabling the trade-based filtered suggestions, turn ON the Match Trades filter.

Along with trades, you can also set up regions to visually see the boundaries of assets, sites and jobs and accordingly assign your workforce based on their preferred choice of region. To know more, read Configure Regions and Apply to Jobs.
